Cavity Fillings and Sealants

Fillings can prevent minor decay from progressing into more severe conditions.

Effective Cavity Treatments

While common, tooth decay and cavities can lead to severe dental damage if not addressed. Family Dentistry of Lakewood uses the latest methods and techniques to address these issues. Cavities are filled with composite resin to protect teeth from further decay. The filling materials match your teeth for a seamless look. Our treatments are effective, comfortable, and durable.

  • What are cavity fillings?

Cavity fillings repair teeth that have been damaged by decay. We remove the decayed portion of the tooth, clean the area, and then fill the cavity with a composite resin that restores the tooth’s shape and function.

  • Why are sealants important?

Sealants are a preventive treatment typically applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. They provide a protective layer that prevents food and bacteria from getting stuck in the tiny grooves of the teeth, significantly reducing the risk of cavities. Sealants are especially helpful in preventing cavities in children and teens who are more prone to them.

  • How long do cavity fillings last?

With proper care, they can last about seven years on average. Regular check-ups help ensure that they are still working correctly.
